 Transportation Energy Data Book

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory compiles this material for the federal government. Dating from 1976, the site compiles energy statistics from many sources in an easy-to-view format. The entire book is available, chapter by chapter, as a PDF.

In Chapter 11, on greenhouse gas emissions, reporters can quickly verify important facts. For instance: that the United States is the leading emitter of greenhouse gases; that the percentage of greenhouse gases that come from transportation continues to rise (right now it's almost 33 percent of the country's greenhouse gas emissions); that different greenhouse gases have different warming potentials in the atmosphere; and that automobile gasoline provides most of the carbon emissions in the transportation sector. And lots, lots, more.
