AAAS Science Journalism Awards Deadline August 1

The deadline for applying for the 2008 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) science journalism award, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, LLC, is August

1.

The award, dating from 1945, is for outstanding reporting for a general audience between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008. The award, given at the AAAS annual meting, to be held in Chicago in February, is for individuals and not institutions such as publishers or employers. Stated criteria involve scientific accuracy, initiative, originality, clarity of interpretation, and value in fostering improved understanding of science and its impact. U.S. categories are for large newspapers, small newspapers, magazines, television, radio, and online.

Winning entries in each category receive $3,000.
